| ― Dark Night charging at Boy Blue, Fables #37 — "The Saint George Syndrome: Chapter Two of Homelands Fables" |
Dark Night, the Rider Under the Stars, is a Fable knight who is one of Baba Yaga's servants in The Rus, along with his brothers, Bright Day and Radiant Sun. He first appears in Fables #37 — "The Saint George Syndrome: Chapter Two of Homelands Fables."
History
Background
Dark Night and his brothers, Bright Day and Radiant Sun, were created by Baba Yaga[3] and were put to work as knights in the Emperor's army in The Rus. The three brothers are the greatest martial powers in The Rus and have slaughtered entire armies on the field.[1]
Beheaded
While on a mission in the Homelands, Boy Blue runs into Dark Night's brothers on the road. Blue makes short work of both of them and cuts them down with the Vorpal Blade. Afterward, he meets Dark Night on the same road,[1] and chops his body into pieces, much like he did with his brothers.[3] However, because the brothers' existence is magically tied to Baba Yaga's own, as long as she still lives, so do they.[1]
Business Office
While trapped in the Business Office, Baba Yaga calls her three "sons" across the worlds to her side, restoring them once again, in body and might. Nevertheless, despite the enhancement of her magical abilities and the support of her newly revived knights, she cannot discover a means to escape the Business Office.[3]
Ultimately, Dark Night and his brothers[2] fade from existence[1] when Bufkin employs the Vorpal Blade to behead Baba Yaga,[2] since their existence is connected to her.[1]
