Safrin is a human Fable who works for the secret intelligence organization known as the Shadow Players. She first appears in Everafter: From the Pages of Fables #1 — "The Show Me State: Chapter One of The Pandora Protocol."
History
Background
Safrin is a mute woman who works for the Shadow Players,[1] a clandestine Fable intelligence organization that is based in Washington, D.C.[2]
The relic thieves
Safrin is in the control room while the newest recruit, Connor Wolf, is being shown around the premises.[2] She is also present when their boss Feathertop assigns the Shadow Player agents with thwarting a team of mercenaries who have been stealing sacred Native American artifacts from various museums nationwide,[3] and when Thomas of Erceldoune uses a magical map to locate Jordan Yow, a mundy girl possessing magical powers.[4]
When Peter receives a call from Connor, Safrin and her team team can only listen helplessly through Connor's communication equipment as he is captured by the enemy, with Safrin appearing visibly shocked.[5]
The Cube
While site manager[2] Ayesha focuses on her documentation, Safrin offers her a cup of coffee. Due to Safrin's muteness, she employs a magic bracelet that articulates her messages. When Ayesha declares that she has a multitude of new additions to the canon to add, Safrin states that she will not linger; still, Ayesha invites her to stay, noting that it would be delightful to have someone to talk to. Ayesha expresses that her intense workload has made her feel so busy and isolated that she has begun to forget the sound of her own voice, but when Safrin gives her a look, she realizes her own insensitivity, given that Safrin is mute. Safrin offers a sympathetic ear as Ayesha shares her feelings, revealing that her job was once enjoyable. However, since the Everaftering, the workload has become unmanageable, and the speed of the world now surpasses the speed of the documentation. Safrin promises Ayesha that she will keep confidential what she has communicated, and extends an offer to make another pot of coffee for her, to support her in tackling all the work.[1]
When Connor Wolf encounters the ghost of La Llorona at Inola Tanner's residence, Safrin accompanies Ayesha as Feathertop reaches out to the latter via a magical map.[6]
Upon the return of the Shadow Players agents to headquarters after their successful operation against the Cube, Ayesha stands prepared to take notes, accompanied by Safrin. While she writes documentation later, Safrin approaches her desk, carrying a tray of coffee for both of them.[7]
Physical appearance
Safrin possesses fair skin, brown eyes and wavy hair that reaches her chin, characterized by a striking green hue. The color of her eyebrows matches the green of her hair.[1]
Paraphernalia
Magic bracelet: Because of Safrin's muteness, she relies on a magical bracelet that translates her messages. She operates the bracelet by tapping it with a finger. The bracelet resembles interwoven seashells in a purplish-red hue.[1]

Trivia
Safrin may or may not be another iteration of the Little Mermaid:
- The bracelet that translates her messages resembles interwoven seashells[1] ― in the fairy tale, the titular character, like most members of her species, lives in the ocean.
- Safrin is mute[1] ― in the fairy tale, the titular character gives up her voice for the chance to become human.
- Ayesha jokingly threatens to turn her into fish sticks if she reveals what she just told her.[1] Mermaids are half human and half fish.
- Safrin's words to Ayesha, "My lips are sealed,"[1] are almost identical to Nerissa's in Fables: The Wolf Among Us; when the charmed ribbon prevents the latter from revealing any of her employer's secrets, she says, "These lips are sealed," first to Bigby Wolf[8] and later to Ichabod Crane.[9]
