Merlin is a human Fable from Camelot, who debuts in Jack of Fables #12 — "The Bad Prince, Part 1: Hit the Road, Jack."
History
King Arthur
Merlin was in a boat with King Arthur when the Lady of the Lake emerged from the water and presented Excalibur to Arthur. She urged him to take up the sword and fulfill his destiny as the rightful King of Camelot.[3]
Death
Many years later, Merlin mysteriously emerges out of a river in the Grand Canyon in the mundane world, carrying Excalibur and says that the "Green Woman's gift must not fall into evil hands," referring to the Lady of the Lake; before thrusting the sword right into Jack Horner. After the deed,[2] Merlin mysteriously falls over dead and Jack proceeds to take out his anger on his corpse.[4]
