| ― The hedgehog describing Rose Red to the manticore in Fables #96 — "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Chapter Three of Rose Red" |
The hedgehog is an animal Fable who lives at the Farm. It first appears in a flashback from the Homelands in Fables #96 — "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Chapter Three of Rose Red."
History
Homelands
Back in the Homelands, the hedgehog and a manticore passed through the magical forest where a young Rose Red lived alone without her sister. The duo were two of many creatures who passed through the woods, looking for a person with magic in them that could help them with their problems; but the two of them quickly understood that Rose Red, sad and depressed, was not the one they were looking for.[1]
The Farm
The hedgehog later watches as Rose Red addresses her fellow Fables at the Farm after finally overcoming her long depression.[2]
Kingdom of Haven
After the Fables are forced to relocate to Haven, the hedgehog watches as people line up to audition for Pinocchio's new super team.[3]
New Eden
Later, Rose Red is escorted back to her childhood home by the Cricket on the Hearth to uncover her true history. The hedgehog observes Rose from the sidelines as the cricket recounts stories of the magical forest where she spent her childhood. The cricket offers her an alternative: to build a new Eden here, reigning as its queen for ages to come. As Rose ponders this, she finds herself strolling through the forest, naked; with the hedgehog, the manticore, the World Turtle and other animals by her side. Despite her initial curiosity, Rose ultimately dismisses this as nothing more than a child's dream and chooses not to pursue it.[4]
Physical description
The hedgehog is an anthropomorphic animal who walks on two legs, wears a dapper tuxedo and carries an umbrella.[1]
