Oh, wow. Is he looking for that black book of yours?
Hans' to Georgie Porgie, Fables: The Wolf Among Us #18 — "Chapter Eighteen"

Hans is a human Fable who works at the Pudding & Pie strip club on a part of Fabletown known as the Crooked Mile. He debuts in Fables: The Wolf Among Us #18 — "Chapter Eighteen." After Fabletown falls and magic is introduced into the mundane world, he finds work at the clandestine Fable intelligence agency known as the Shadow Players.

History

Background

Hans works at the Pudding & Pie, a strip club run by Georgie Porgie, located on a part of Fabletown known as the Crooked Mile, in New York City's Meatpacking District. After two of the club's prostitutes, Faith and Lily, are killed, Georgie orders the entire staff not to ever say anything to the Fabletown sheriff about the dead girls, threatening to cut their heads off if they do.[1]

Bigby's investigation

One evening, Fabletown Sheriff Bigby Wolf arrives at Pudding & Pie investigating the murders of Faith and Lily. In an effort to get the owner, Georgie Porgie, to talk, Bigby grabs a baseball bat and starts smashing objects inside the bar. Hans walks in on the ruckus, expressing his shock and asking what's happening. Georgie angrily responds that the sheriff is tearing up his club and points out that Hans is just standing there. Hans seems astonished, and asks his boss if Bigby is looking for "that black book" of his. Georgie orders him to shut up, but Bigby asks him about the book. Hans explains that it is a book about the prostitutes and their customers, and explains that Georgie is very secretive about the book, so he thought that maybe that was what Bigby was looking for. However, when Bigby wants to know where Georgie keeps the book, Hans hesitates, answering that maybe he shouldn't say. Bigby states that he is the sheriff and it is fine to tell him, but that makes Hans even more determined not to say anything. When Bigby asks him why, he explains about that Georgie threatened to cut off the head of any staff member who told the sheriff anything about the dead girls, and he doesn't want that to happen,[1] so Hans observes as Bigby persists in wreaking havoc in the pub, until Georgie admits that the book is located in the floor safe.[3]

Shortly afterward, Hans is observed sweeping the floor behind Georgie to tidy up the mess created by the sheriff, when Bigby and Snow White enter the club looking for Ichabod Crane.[4]

Georgie Porgie's death

When Bigby comes to work after the Crooked Man is arrested, Hans can be seen standing in line outside the Business Office, waiting for his turn to speak with the authorities of Fabletown,[5] possibly looking for employment (like Grendel did while waiting in line outside the Business Office earlier)[6] after his employer's death at the hands of Bigby.[7]

The Shadow Players

Following the collapse of Fabletown[8] and the integration of magic into the mundane world,[9] Hans joined the ranks of the Shadow Players,[2] a covert Fable intelligence organization.[2] He is sweeping the floor of the motor pool when Feathertop gives the latest recruit, Connor Wolf, a tour of the facilities.[2]
