I'm much too sleepy to revolve… But I may rotate, given a good spin…
― The Dormouse to the March Hare on Goldilocks' revolution, in Jack of Fables #30 — "The Book of Restoration: The Books of War, Volume Three"

The Dormouse is an animal Fable who is a prisoner at the Golden Boughs Retirement Village. He first appears in Jack of Fables #27 — "Turning Pages, Chapter Three: Hillary."

History

Bookburner's attack

The Dormouse, March Hare, and Hatter are all prisoners at the Golden Boughs Retirement Village. As Bookburner advances towards the Golden Boughs, the captive Goldilocks incites a covert revolution, believing that Burner will be their deliverance. The Hatter, March Hare, and Dormouse gather for a meeting where she endeavors to inspire her fellow inmates to join her cause, although the Hare and the Hatter must carry the sleeping Dormouse between them. When Goldilocks discusses a revolution, the Hare tries to rouse the drowsy Dormouse so that he can listen. Completely misunderstanding, the Dormouse sleepily replies that he is too tired to "revolve," but he might rotate if someone gives him a spin.[1]

The Dormouse misses a significant portion of Goldilocks' presentation due to falling asleep, yet the March Hare and the Hatter engage in conversation: When Goldilocks states that the enemy of her enemy is her friend, the Hare ponders whether this implies that the friend of his friend is his enemy. The Hatter agrees and proposes to kill the Dormouse now while he remains unsuspecting. They are then shown with their hands around his throat, just as a lively Dormouse awakens with a big happy expression on his face while the audience roars with applause.[1]

Bookburner launches an assault on the Golden Boughs, prompting the Hatter and the March Hare to charge into combat alongside Goldilocks, although the drowsy Dormouse appears to sit this one out. However, as Bookburner's forces begin to fire upon the revolutionaries, the Hatter and the Hare opt to flee instead and they hurriedly retreat with the slumbering Dormouse nestled between them. The Dormouse is next seen from behind as as the Page sisters distribute copies of the original books to the inmates.[2]

Quest for Fabletown

Decades later, the Dormouse and the Hatter take part in the other Golden Boughs inmates' quest for Fabletown and travel all the way to Canada with them in an attempt to find it. During the bus journey, the Dormouse peacefully slumbers in the seat beside the Hatter.[nb 1]

Once the bus halts, the group finds itself in the middle of a battle between Jack Frost, and Jack Horner in dragon form. The Hatter is killed as the dragon fatally flings him through the air, but the Dormouse is absent from the battle,[3] and his fate is left unknown.
